Ruth Minium Teates

Liverpool, PA

Ruth Minium Teates was born July 28, 1927, close to Meiserville, Snyder County, the first child of George and Della Minium peacefully entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior at her home April 8, 2024, at an age of 96 years and 9 months.

She attended Selinsgrove High School where she graduated in 1945. From there she enrolled in the Rudemar Beauty School of Philadelphia and graduated as a beautician. After graduation, she furthered her education and became an anatomy teacher in beauty culture at Devanol Beauty School in Mifflintown, Pa.

On September 4, 1948, she married Palmer (Pal) Teates, and they were inseparable until his passing 67 years later. Soon after their marriage they assumed operations of the Oriental County Store in Susquehanna Township, Juniata County from Pal’s parents Harvey and Verna Teats. While operating the general store they began to deal in a new type of consumer goods, household electric appliances. In 1957, as this new way of living took hold in the area, the store was sold, and a new house and appliance business was built on Route 104 only a few miles from the general store. “Ruth’s Beauty Shop” was also opened in the basement of the couples’ home. Ruth operated the salon until 1974 when she became the full-time secretary, office manager, and call taker of her husbands’ business. She continued in this role until 2008, when she assumed the role as primary caregiver to her ailing husband.

Ruth was a very involved member of the Richfield United Methodist Church. During her time, she sang in the choir and played the piano for 38 years, and also taught the “Young Disciples” class for 25 years.

Ruth is survived by her son Lonny and his wife Judy, her grandson Travis and his wife Amber and great-grandchildren Mikayla and Everett along with many relatives from Snyder, Perry, and Juniata counties. Plus a few relatives from California and Nevada. While her biological relatives may number just a few, she is survived by all those who thought of her as a mother or grandmother.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday, April 12, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at the Richfield United Methodist Church, 82 Church Street, Richfield, PA 17086, with Pastor Brian Myselt, Pastor Robert Gray, Jr., and Pastor James Mento officiating.
