Gladys E. Sheaffer

Selinsgrove, PA

Gladys Elaine (Losch) Sheaffer, 96, of Selinsgrove, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2024, at The Manor at Penn Village.

Gladys was born on January 31, 1928, in McAlisterville, PA, to Henry Losch and Anna Dressler Losch.  Her childhood days were spent at Stony Run School House in McAlisterville.  Gladys was a skilled seamstress who worked at multiple sewing factories and was a dedicated salesclerk at Plaza.

In 1946, Gladys married her beloved late husband, Herman Sheaffer, eloping alongside her sister and brother-in-law.  Their union would be marked by happiness and love, that lasted for 52 years, during which they raised four children.

Her family and friends will remember her as an avid baker.  Her passion for baking started when she was a child, learning to bake alongside her mother.  Gladys was known for her apple and pumpkin pies, which were savored by her family, friends, and church community.  Sunday dinners in her home were a big deal with delicious food and warm hospitality.  She made sure no one left her home hungry.  Her love of baking and cooking lives on through her children and grandchildren whom she lovingly taught.

Gladys’ hands were rarely still.  She loved crocheting and sewing and would spend her time making blankets for her family members.  She also loved gardening, which was evidenced by her beautiful flower beds and vegetable gardens.

Gladys found joy in singing and sang in choirs alongside her husband and sisters.  She enjoyed traveling to places like the Bahamas, Germany, and Hawaii.  In her free time, she was an avid reader and loved watching the Philadelphia Phillies.

Above all, Gladys’ greatest joy in her life was her family.  She would happily tell anyone she met about her 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, each holding a special place in her heart.

Gladys is survived by her children, Connie (John) Garman, Marilyn (William) Botdorf, Larry (Wanda) Sheaffer; daughter-in-law Carol Sheaffer; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Gladys is now reunited with her parents; husband, Herman; son, Carey; and siblings Victor, Wayne, Donald, Joseph, Larry, Orville, Jerry, Elwood, Carolyn Stoner, Mildred Hepner, Wanda Miller, and Leroy Dressler.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 18, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 300 Rhoads Avenue, Selinsgrove, with Pastor Colby Garman and Dr. Jessica Davis officiating.
