Port Trevorton, PA

David R. “Brownie” “Big Chief” Brown, 80, of Port Trevorton, entered eternal rest on Thursday, November 7, 2024, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

David was born on March 18, 1944, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Roy and Ruth (Freed) Brown.  On April 5, 1968, he married the love of his life, Marylou Brown, who preceded him in passing.

He proudly attended various one-room schoolhouses in the Port Trevorton area and was a graduate of Selinsgrove High School.

David started working in the family’s carnival business at the young age of 10.  After he married Marylou, they owned and operated Brown’s Amusements.  Together, they shared many years of special memories and forming countless friendships out on the carnival circuit.  David and Marylou were members of the Showmen’s Association and Zion Lutheran Church, where they were married over 55 years ago.

David enjoyed researching and talking about his family roots. His love of researching his family’s history ran deep.  He was always a man of faith, and valued being a dad.  Family was his pride and joy, and the times they shared were always precious to him.

He is survived by his children, Wendell (Alexia) Herb, Lisa (Jerry) Bartlebaugh, and Tara (Bruce) Diehl; grandchildren, Ashley (Keith) Wright, Kyle (Lindsey) Herb, David (Kayla) Bartlebaugh, Tyler (Companion Jessica Lloyd) Herb, Elizabeth Diehl, and TJ Diehl; great-grandchildren, Kailee, Gauge, Peyton, Kenzie, Bentley, Boden, Barrett, Sawyer, Brayleigh, and Harper; and his furpuppy, Casey.

David is preceded in passing by his wife, Marylou; son, Lincoln Brown; and his parents, Roy and Ruth.

A viewing will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc. 9366 Route 35, Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA 17853, with Rev. Robert Doll officiating.

Interment will immediately follow at Zion (Halls) Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions in loving memory of David be made to Zion (Halls) Lutheran Church, 934 Old Trail Road, Port Trevorton, PA 17864.

Written by David Brown - Life

Life is like a tree.  A tree has a large trunk.  But holding the trunk are many roots.  They grow deep and hold the trunk, and stable it through the wind – rain and many of life’s storms.  Your ancestors are your roots.  The roots of the tree feed the trunk and furnish water and nutrients to grow more limbs and twigs.  The limbs and twigs are extensions of the roots.  Always remember where you came from.  Cherish your roots and remember where you came from and learn your roots give strength and stability.  When you were born, you were just a twig on the tree.  But, as you grow, you became a limb of the tree and eventually you become the trunk.
