Georgia A. Pontius
It is with heavy hearts, but the firm knowledge of her eternal security in God’s Kingdom, that we announce the peaceful homegoing of Georgia Ann Pontius, surrounded by her loving family, on April 2, 2025.
Georgia was born on March 27, 1939, the eldest daughter of the late George and Pearl (Beaver) Noll of Lewisburg, PA. On November 25, 1959, Georgia married the love of her life, Donald (to her, “Donnie”) Pontius. Together, they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage, creating a beautiful family, and many favorite memories along the way—including spending time at their cabin in Clinton County, boating on the Susquehanna, water and snow skiing, stock outboard boat racing, traveling to Florida and Canada, and riding together on the Harley motorcycle.
Georgia graduated from Lewisburg High School in 1957 and Thomas Jefferson School of Nursing in 1959. Upon graduation, she began her RN career at Geisinger Hospital in Danville and then became the supervisor at Blue Hill Nursing Home in Shamokin Dam. After becoming a mother, Georgia retired from nursing and assisted in the family boat and auto sales businesses for many years. She is fondly remembered as the petite lady with the beautiful smile at the customer window of the Biff Burger in the 60s and 70s, her father-in-law’s famous restaurant on the strip.
Georgia was a woman of strong faith and love for Jesus Christ. She devoted time to teaching Bible School, volunteering with church children & youth groups, assisting with Habitat for Humanity and several other charities over the years. Georgia saw the best in people and demonstrated kindness and generosity continuously, often uttering the phrase, “God bless them,” when thinking about others. It made her heart happy to do for others, and she was always ready to lend a hand in support wherever needed. Anyone who met Georgia was blessed by her special and thoughtful ways. She was truly an inspiration to her family and friends.
Georgia’s primary focus, always, was taking care of her family, selflessly making sacrifices and choices in support of their best interests, and she did it so well! Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She could often be found on the floor playing with the little ones, even up to a few months ago. Georgia was a wonderful cook, and she sat the most immaculate table at the holidays. When you visited, she would ask you at least a dozen times if there was anything she could get for you. Georgia was effortlessly classy and beautiful, both inside and out. She will be remembered as a faithful and devoted wife and the most loving mother and grandmother anyone could have.
Georgia leaves behind countless beautiful memories to treasure and the legacy of a life well-lived for Don; daughter Kelly and her husband Rich Musser of Lock Haven; son Brian and his wife Chrysti (Apple) of Selinsgrove; her grandsons Jacob Pontius and Joshua Pontius; and her great-grandchildren Riley, Bronn and Veta Pontius. Georgia is also survived by her sister Carol (Alan) Kline and brother Melvin (Doris) Noll, both of Newport. She was preceded in death by her sister Barbara Frey of Cloverdale, CA, and her grandson Jaron Pontius. We smile when we think of the many happy reunions taking place in heaven right now. While our family grieves our immense loss and misses her dearly, we know that we will be reunited again someday very soon. Until then, we thank God for the blessing of Georgia Pontius and the special gift she has been to all of us.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Evangelical Community Hospital ICU and The Manor at Penn Village for their care and concern for Georgia these past few weeks.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 10-11 AM at the Selinsgrove Church of the Nazarene, with a Celebration of Life service following, officiated by Pastor Charles Melton.
