Liverpool, PA

Jeffrey “Jeff” W. Shuler, 64, of Liverpool, entered into rest at 8:36 a.m., Monday, March 3, 2025, at home, after a nearly 4-year battle with stage 4 cancer.

He was born November 17, 1960, at the old Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg, a son of Wayne and Ruth (Rinard) Shuler of Liverpool.

Jeff was a 1978 graduate of Greenwood High School. He played baseball, including Little League, teeners, townball, and throughout high school. Jeff also played on softball teams around the county.

He worked several places, including Miller’s Market, Liverpool, as a butcher. Upon their closure, he continued butchering at W.E. Schlegel’s, Thompsontown, for 10 years.

Jeff was a member of the Liverpool United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Susquehanna Valley Sportsmen’s Club and the International Federation of American Homing Pigeon Fanciers.

He was a homing pigeon enthusiast, sending birds as far as Tennessee to return home. Jeff was an avid outdoorsman, hunting deer, turkeys, and rabbits and trapping muskrats, foxes, and racoons. He was also a great fisherman, catching bass and once, reeling in a 46-inch muskie. Jeff loved cooking, particularly chicken and meat, and concocting his own recipes until they tasted just right. He enjoyed watching football, commonly referring to it as “men falling on men!” He frequently built birdhouses for blue birds and gave them away. There wasn’t a bird that Jeff didn’t love…except hawks. It is no wonder his first word was “Birdie!”

He will be remembered for his love and loyalty to his family and friends, and for his very own, one-of-a-kind, sense of humor.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Scott, of Mifflintown; one sister, Michelle, of Liverpool; his little buddy, Rocky; and numerous cousins and special friends.

Family and friends are welcome from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at the Liverpool United Methodist Church, 109 S. Market Street, Liverpool, PA 17045, where a celebration of life will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., with Rev. Dr. Robert Basom officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jeff’s honor can be made to the Liverpool or Millerstown E.M.S. or the Liverpool United Methodist Church, 109 S. Market Street, Liverpool, PA 17045.

The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to Dr. Vasekar, her team, and the employees at Hershey Medical Center.  A special thanks to the owners, employees, and customers at Schlegel’s for their concern.  An additional thank you to everyone for their prayers, gifts of food, visits, cards, love, and support, during Jeff’s illness.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 606 N. Front Street, Liverpool, PA 17045.
