John Robert “Bob” Bortel, Jr., 78, of Hershey, entered eternal rest at his home on Sunday, December 31, 2023.
Bob was born on January 10, 1945, in Philadelphia, a son of the late John Robert and Evelyn Lorraine (Zimmerman) Bortel, Sr. Early in life, he married Nita F. Bortel who preceded him in passing in 2006.
Bob earned his bachelor’s of science in education at Shippensburg University. He was employed as a retail sales associate in the men’s department at Macy’s Department Store in the Harrisburg East Mall until retirement in 2015.
He was an avid runner, and actively participated in marathons including the Harrisburg Marathon. Bob was a Philadelphia Phillies baseball and Penn State football fan. He also supported various charities.
Bob is survived by his two sons, Christopher Bortel and his wife Perla and Dr. Shaun Bortel and his wife Dana; three grandchildren, Patrick Bortel, Natalie Bortel, and Katie Bortel; brother-in-law, Rev. James W. Grubb and his wife Donna; niece, Erin Grubb; and nephew, Eric Grubb.
He is preceded in passing by his parents, John Robert and Evelyn Lorraine and his wife, Nita.
Services will be held at the discretion of the family at a later date.
