Joyce E. Hockenberry, 79, of Liverpool, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.

She was born in Liverpool on October 4, 1943, the daughter of the late Edward Roy Sheaffer and Alma Kathryn (Harris) Sheaffer.

Joyce graduated from Greenwood High School, and she was also a graduate of the Computer Learning Network. She retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Executive Offices.

Joyce was a member of St. Thomas Independent Brethren in Christ Church and attended the Liverpool United Methodist Church. She had taught Sunday school and was active with various bible study groups. Her faith was very important to her.  Joyce was active in the Keystone Walk to Emmaus since 2000 when she “took” her walk.  She was on a team, worked in background, and was a member of the board throughout the years.  Joyce attended 4th day gatherings whenever possible.

She enjoyed time spent with her friends when she went out to eat, she loved her family, and she enjoyed traveling, and sewing.

Joyce went to Uganda, Africa, in 2018 to do mission work.  While in Uganda, she met a family there and they shared a special friendship.

Joyce is survived by two sisters Bonnie Aughenbaugh and Mary Gebhardt; her brothers William Sheaffer and David Sheaffer; a nephew Douglas Murray; four nieces Debra Cameron, Kathy D’errico, Angela Lyter and Miranda Kerstetter; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the St. Thomas Independent Brethren in Christ Church, 1070 St. Thomas Road, Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA 17853.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in loving memory of Joyce may be made to St. Thomas Independent Brethren in Christ Church, 1070 St. Thomas Road, Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA 17853.
