Shirley E. Mitterling, 85, of Mt. Pleasant Mills, entered eternal rest on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Shirley was born on October 31, 1938, in Limestone Township, Union County, a daughter of the late Forrest E. and Carrie F. (Lepley) Kessler.  On December 15, 1956, she married the late Lester Mitterling, who preceded her in passing on July 18, 2011.

Shirley was a graduate of Middleburg High School.  She was employed at Halls Motors as their secretary, office assistant, and bookkeeper.  She and Lester were partners in their family business, Mitterling’s Fruit Farm, from 1956 until 2003.  Shirley was known as the Vice President of the business.

She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant Mills, and a former member of the ladies auxiliary of Fremont Fire Department.  Her hobbies were cooking and canning.  Shirley’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.

Shirley is survived by her children, David Mitterling of Mt. Pleasant Mills, Beth Hoover and her husband Levon of Selinsgrove, and Barry Mitterling and his wife Deirdre (Dee) of Mt. Pleasant Mills; grandchildren, Joshua (Josh) Mitterling and his wife Samantha of Mt. Pleasant Mills, Valerie Hoover of Selinsgrove, Ashley Mitterling of Mt. Pleasant Mills, Scott Hoover and his wife Laura of Selinsgrove, and Sierrah Buck and her companion Josh of York; great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Kayson; siblings, Charlotte Andrews and her husband Charles, John Kessler and his wife Janie, and Randy Kessler and his wife Rosalie; sister-in-law, Carol Kessler; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in passing by her husband, Lester; parents, Forrest and Carrie; and siblings, Anna Mae Glass, Nancy Watkins, Charles Kessler, Connie Short, and Linda Landis.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA 17853, with Pastor Valerie Delooze and Pastor Ron “Pete” Carnahan officiating.

Interment will immediately follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Mills.
