Valera G. (Hupp) Rice

Valera G. Rice, 94, of Selinsgrove, entered into rest at 6:50 a.m., Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at home surrounded by her family.

She was born January 20, 1931, in Juniata County, a daughter of the late William and Goldie (Stroup) Hupp. On March 27, 1948, she married Robert L. Rice, who preceded her in death August 29, 1992.

She worked as an attendant at Penn Lutheran Village, Selinsgrove, for 20 years.

Valera enjoyed shopping at Boscov’s, cooking, and gardening.

She was a member of the Baptist Church in Shamokin Dam.

Valera is survived by one son, Lee A. Rice, and his companion, Joanna LaRossa of Selinsgrove; 8 grandchildren, Brandon Rice, Lee R. Rice, Kevin T. Rice, Lynann Wright, Jason Rice, Doug Rice, Lisa Rice, and Amy Zimmerman; and 19 great-grandchildren, Ashlynn, Wyatt, Landon, Kylie, Jacob, Lily, Jack, Chloe, Clayton, Sammy and Jacob, Rastlin, Mythias, Skyler, Dylinn, Hunter, Cheyenne, Denver, and Devin.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Dale and Steven Rice.

Services will be held privately, and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Valera’s honor can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
