Viola M. Chubb, 89, of Mt. Pleasant Mills, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, with her loving family by her side.
Viola was born on June 11, 1935, in Liverpool, a daughter of the late George M. and Maggie Mae (Goodling) Shope. Early in life, she married the late Lester Strawser and, later, the late George Mateer. After George’s passing, she married the late Willard Chubb on June 26, 2009.
Viola attended the Eaden one-room schoolhouse. She frequently talked about her walks to and from school and helping her daddy with morning and evening chores on the family farm.
She attended Stony Run Mission Church and was known for watching Pastor John Hagee and Pastor Charles Stanley on television.
Viola enjoyed crocheting, doing puzzles, listening to music, bird watching, cooking, baking, and planting flowers. Her greatest enjoyments were having family get-togethers and spending precious time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Lester (Karen) Strawser, Lily (Raymond) Weller, Palmer “Tobe” (Delores) Strawser, Bernice (Fred) Naylor, Earl (Brenda) Strawser, Mary (Mike) Leon, and Daniel Strawser and his companion Kate; son-in-law, Paul Rinck; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Marie Shelley, Irene Troutman, Marlin Shope, Bertha Lamey, and Maynard Shope.
Viola is preceded in passing by her husbands, Lester Strawser, George Mateer, and Willard Chubb; daughter, Rebecca Jane Rinck on November 15, 2011; and siblings, Mahlon Shope, Catherine Cluck, and Mildred Strawser.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mt. Pleasant Mills, with Pastor Nick Smith officiating.
Interment will immediately follow in East End Full Gospel Church Cemetery, Spiggs Hill Road, Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA.
