William E. Troup, Jr.
Belleville, PA
William E. “Troupie” Troup, Jr., 96, formerly of Millerstown, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Valley View Haven in Belleville.
William was born on March 18, 1928, in Seven Stars, Juniata County, a son of the late William E. and Kathryn (Dressler) Troup, Sr. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Olive L. (Losch) Troup. They recently celebrated a remarkable milestone of 76 years of marriage.
As a young boy, William attended Center one room schoolhouse and went on to graduate from Millerstown High School. William was co-owner along with his brother and sister of their family’s business, Troup Brothers and Benner Store. The family business was started by William’s great-grandfather, and continuously operated for over 104 years.
He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, and also helped to build the church.
His compassion for those less fortunate allowed him to help people in their time of need. He and Olive generously canned over 90 quarts of peaches every year and baked dozens of cookies to share and visit with those who were home bound or in nursing homes.
William enjoyed spending precious time with his family at their family cabin that was built on woodland jointly owned by he and his brother-in-law, John Losch.
When his grandchildren were younger, he added a wood frame to the metal wagon that he pulled behind his lawn tractor. Olive used her skills to fashion a colorful vinyl roof as well as adding fringe and tassels to line the sides. His grandchildren have many fond memories of the fun rides in Pop Pop’s “fancy wagon".
His most treasured moments within his last years of life were his visits from his great-grandchildren. Their love and funny antics filled him with joy.
He is survived by his wife, Olive; children, George E. (Mary) Troup of Howard, Mary T. (Jeff) Miller of Millerstown, and William E. (Beth) Troup, III of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Joshua (Companion Denise) Troup, Olivia (Mike) Whitehill, Nicole (Paul) Condon, Ross (Amber) Miller, Sadie Troup, and Will Troup; and 4 precious great-grandchildren.
William is preceded in passing by his parents; granddaughter, in infancy, Megan Renee Miller on July 10, 1978; brother, Lenus Troup; and sister, Wilma Benner.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Presbyterian Church, 11 Church Road, Newport, PA 17074, with Pastor Paul Kampa officiating. Visitation will immediately follow the Celebration of Life.
